METHODS TO TROUBLESHOOT THE ERROR 15106:

Method 1: Do an administrator login

If you have already logged in as a user, perform the steps below to log in as an administrator:

  1. Go to the QB Desktop icon.
  2. Choose Run as Administrator.

This step will change your status from a random user to an administrator.

Method 2: Bar the antivirus software and relabel the folders

  1. Simultaneously press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to go to the task manager.
  2. In the Processes tab check for [ANTIVIRUS].exe
  3. On the condition that you receive an error uninstall the antivirus software.
  4. Choose End Process.
  5. Now relabel the QB update folder.
    • Simultaneously press the Windows + E key to go to file explorer.
    • Show up to C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks(year). In case you are a 64-bit user then show up to C:\Program Files(x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks.
    • Click on the download qbXX folder then choose Rename.
    • Put the word .old at the end of the name.
  6. Finally, re-update QB Desktop.

Method 3: Go to the User Account Control and turn it off

For Windows 7 and Windows 8 temporarily turn off the User Account Control and for Windows 10 follow the step below.

Method 4: In Selective Startup mode do a clean install

Step 1: Work on your data

Do create a backup of your company file and note down to keep a copy of the QB Desktop product and license info.

Step 2: Begin your system in Selective startup mode

  1. Simultaneously press the Windows + R key to go to the Run command.
  2. Type MSConfig and choose OK.
  3. Go to the General tab and choose Selective startup then load System Services.
  4. In the Services tab, choose Hide all Microsoft Services.
  5. Choose Disable all.
  6. Untick the Hide all Microsoft Services checkbox.
  7. Ensure that the Windows Installer checkbox is chosen from the List of services.
  8. Choose OK.
  9. Go to the System Configuration window and choose Restart.
